The movie opens with the groovy dance number “Such a heartthrob Ji”, as a kick start to the amazing journey ahead. The star-studded song featuring Varun Dhawan, Ananya Pandey, Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan was the starter to the show. It was an indicator that “Rocky aur Rani ki Prem Kahaani” was about to win hearts. The movie is a rich combination of fun, colours, glamour and entertainment just like any Dharma film. But the message that this film carries still remains as the golden feather on its crown, with the perfect touch of humour.
The film mainly revolves around the vibrant love story of an affluent Punjabi munda Rocky Randhawa with a gutsy and glamorous Journalist Rani Chatterjee. While Rocky and Rani’s intellectual differences added spark to the drama, KJo drew a beautiful picture of unrequited love with the story of Jamini Chatterjee and Kanwal, parallely. It is an emotional as well as a thought provoking melodrama celebrating love. The story line also discusses deep-rooted issues of the society, making RRKPK stand out from just being a family entertainer. Gender inequality, internal misogyny, body shaming, cancel culture in society, patriarchy are some of the major issues on which the film throws light upon. The movie successfully portrays how cultural clashes and dismissive attitude of the people can make lives uneasy irrespective of their backgrounds.
The cast of the film made it alive. Ranveer Singh did absolute justice to his character Rocky, with his humour and body language. The audience have titled Rocky as the “Green Flag” for today’s generation. His expressions, body language, wit, moves and romance have won the hearts of the audience easily. Alia Bhatt aka Rani Chatterjee was an absolute stunner in her looks and ideologies. She is the epitome of courage and self-respect,and a perfect example of modern women. The viewers loved her and her Jhumkas as much as they loved Rocky. Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi where some other popular actors who lived their roles to the fullest. Dharmendra as Kanwal and Shabana Azmi as Jamini, was another treat to our eyes. But the presentation of Jaya Bachchan as Thakuma, the powerful and dominating matriarch left the audiences’ jaw dropped. Along with all these elements, enchanting music made RRKPK a huge success. While Tum kya mile, What Jhumka? and Ve Kamleya won space in our playlists, Composer Pritam won our hearts by the incorporation of evergreen nostalgic classics like Abhi Na Jao Chhodkar, O Sathi Chal, Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hain, Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hain and many more. Manush Nandan’s cinematography and Nitin Baid’s editing joined hands with Karan Johar’s Direction and Pritam’s music here, to make RRKPK an unforgettable film experience.
In short, “Rocky aur Rani ki Prem Kahaani” is a dazzling film with an eye opening message for the society, along with lots of love, laughter and logic. Unlike the other typical Karan Johar films, RRKPK was indeed a bold attempt to speak the unspoken.
