
Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan has instructed officials to conduct admissions to government colleges for the 2026–27 academic year in a transparent, streamlined, and student-friendly manner.
The minister issued the directive during a review meeting on admissions to Government Engineering Colleges and Government Arts and Science Colleges. Officials discussed admission procedures, curriculum development, and other academic initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s higher education system.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Viswanathan said the government remains committed to ensuring that every deserving student gains access to higher education. He emphasized that the state will work to prevent seat shortages from affecting students, particularly those from rural areas.
The minister also called for strict adherence to fair admission practices. He cautioned officials against irregularities and unauthorized monetary transactions and reaffirmed the Higher Education Department’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and accountability.
Viswanathan highlighted several government initiatives to improve educational quality, including the establishment of centres for emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and the recruitment of qualified faculty members. These efforts seek to equip students with industry-relevant skills and enhance their learning experience.
The government is also strengthening employability through industry-oriented programmes and skill development initiatives. According to the minister, these measures will help students improve their career prospects after graduation.
Responding to questions about Vice-Chancellor appointments, Viswanathan said the government would consult with the Chief Minister and complete the appointments as soon as possible. He assured stakeholders that the administration would address higher education issues promptly and resolve them within a defined timeframe.
The Tamil Nadu government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to quality education while maintaining transparency and fairness in the admission process across the state.
